Meeting called to order by Lorrie Walker at 3:05 PM EDT.

Welcome and Introductions:

Board Chair Lorrie Walker welcomed the board members.

Update: Certification

Kerry Chausmer reported. Fewer certification courses are being offered, however, the number of students has remained steady. The technology changes discussed previously have been implemented. The auto approval of seat checks has been removed. The certification website now allows users to create their own unique user ID to log in.

Update: NHTSA

Sherri Cannon reported.

  • National CPS Week was successful. All 50 states had an event for Seat Check Saturday. Report should be release soon.
  • Inspection Station Locator systems will continue with some format changes. In future, the locator will have system to automatically update location changes.
  • It was reported that the find a tech search feature is no longer on the CPS home page.

Officer Elections

The Secretariat announced the results of the Officer Elections. Per the by-laws, Vice-Chairperson Bob Wall will become Board Chairperson. Amy Heinzen was elected to position of Vice-Chairperson.

Committee Reports

Membership

Bob Wall reported. Membership conducted application process for new board members.

Discussion/Action Items

  • Membership conducted application process for new board members. Overall committee was impressed with the geographical diversity and the high quality of candidate applications.
  • Committee recommended following candidates:
    At Large Stacy Dawkins (ND)
    Injury Prevention Sarah Haverstick (TN)
    Diversity Jennifer Booge (MN)
    Injury Prevention Healthcare Barbi Harris (NJ)

Bob Wall moved that the board accept the proposed candidates for board membership. Lorrie Walker seconded. Motion passed none opposed.

  • Committee reviewed the current application process. Several process improvements were suggested by applicants and committee members. The process improvements will be discussed at the January board meeting.
  • Committee will also discuss in January the process for notifying the permanent organizations that support a board position such as Vehicle Manufacturers, etc when the term of the current board position expires.

CERT/RECERT

Kerry Chausmer reported.

Discussion/Action Items

  • Certification program received an appeal. Appeal committee convened to review appeal.
  • Discussed findings of survey to expired techs.
    • Clarify options for CEU's
    • Ideas for program improvement will be discussed by the committee.
  • Discussed recognition activities
    • National CPSB award Request for Nominations posted on board website. 21 nominations to date.
    • Discussed online certificate of achievement

Advocacy Policy Ad Hoc

Tim Murphy reported.

  • Committee will email board members a policy for board to review at January meeting.

Quality Assurance

Sherri Cannon reported. Committee will be focusing on one major task – a survey of CPS technicians and instructors regarding their needs and wants.

Discussion/Action Items

  • Committee presented a draft of the survey report for board review.
  • Responses from all 50 states, more than 500 instructors and 3000 technicians.
  • Next Steps create plan for resource development at January meeting.

Reaching At Risk Communities Ad Hoc

Lynn Ware and Wanda Vazquez reported. Committee chairs met however, full committee did not meet. A full report will be presented at the January meeting.

Communication

Diana Dias reported.

Discussion/Action Items

  • Committee working on development of electronic media kit.
  • Committee plans to enhance media engagement opportunities through CPS awards program.
  • Board photographs will be taken at January meeting.
  • Please send your bio to Secretariat.
  • Committee developing a list of CPS media contacts.

Curriculum

Jennifer Huebner reported.

Discussion/Action Items:

  • The instructor's curriculum update CD and replacement pages will ship last week of November/first week in December. The 62 replacement pages will be for courses which start January 1, 2011.
  • The revised student manuals will be available for courses effective May 15, 2011.
  • Extra copies of the Abbey video are available from Kerry Chausmer.

New Business

  • Board received update regarding development of a state-based certification program.
  • Board discussed a certificate or plaque of appreciation for the certification course auditor.

Next Meeting is scheduled for January 19–20, 2011 at All Children's Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL. In conjunction with the board meeting, Dr. Marilyn Bull will be the Grand Rounds speaker on Friday, January 21st.
