All states and U.S. territories require child safety seats for infants and children. Laws vary by state but, generally, call for infants to be in rear-facing seats, toddlers to be in forward-facing seats and older children to be in booster seats.

Indian Health Service Injury Prevention Specialists and Environmental Health Officers serve federally recognized tribes by providing technical assistance in program implementation covering various topic areas, including child passenger safety. Assistance is routinely provided with CPS Technician training, recertification, checkup events and data collection. Many of these specialists and officers are certified CPS Technicians or Instructors.
