Car Seat Basics for Law Enforcement

Car Seat Basics for Law Enforcement is a free training for law enforcement officers who are not Child Passenger Safety Technicians. This course will equip officers with knowledge to:

• Take an active role in assessing car seat use, according to evidence-based best practices
• Talk to caregivers about child passenger safety
• Share child passenger safety local and national resources with caregivers – all within the context of their regular duties

Officers will learn key child passenger safety concepts through a series of scenarios that take place in the community and be provided with a quick reference resource for use in the field.

Note to CPSTs: This general education course does not qualify for child passenger safety CEUs.

Approved for Law Enforcement Training Credit

Delivery Formats

Online Learning: The online version of this training is available in the Child Passenger Safety Learning Portal and takes about 60-90 minutes to complete. Participants may complete the self-paced online learning incrementally or all at once. To earn proof of completion, participants must complete all of the modules.

In-Person: Any currently certified Child Passenger Safety Technician or Instructor may deliver an in-person offering of this training. An in-person training takes about 90 minutes to deliver. Online Learning Group Delivery Option

A free group delivery option is available for organizations wanting to use the online delivery format of Car Seat Basics for Law Enforcement for groups. Designated group admins can enroll learners in the training, track their progress and run completion reports.
