Beyond Car Seats

Working with parents and caregivers to keep children safe in and around vehicles includes providing education beyond the use of child restraints. Provide education about other dangers in and around vehicles that could seriously harm or even kill children. This information is timely as children are out of school for the summer, increasing time to play outdoors, as well as increase the potential for family trips and visitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified six common dangers that even the most careful parents can overlook, and some tips on how to avoid them. These include:

  1. Heatstroke
  2. Backover
  3. Power Windows
  4. Seat Belt Entanglement
  5. Trunk Entrapment
  6. Vehicle Rollaway
